It’s been another fun year working on this site, and updating it with more tricks and products to make your cord cutting life even better. This whole site was started on a whim as a rant against Comcast, and it’s been fun to see how fast people have adopted the cord cutting lifestyle as this site has grown. So thank you for visiting and supporting it.
I use affiliate links throughout to help offset the costs of operating the site and to keep it free for everyone. I thought it would be fun to check my affiliate account to see what products were purchased by the most people over the last 12 months. Here they are, in order, starting with the most purchased item….
I guess it’s no surprise the TERK antenna would be at the top of the list. The Amazon Basics antenna below is slightly less expensive, and I think either would work just fine. When you cut the cord, trying an HD antenna is an important first step to gathering a ton of free content. And it seems many of you agreed.
I posted a story about why to get a new modem and I recommended this model that worked great for me. The story in short: Comcast called and said I wasn’t leveraging the full speed that was available to me. Since I use a lot of data throughout the whole house, I figured it was worth a shot at upgrading, and I noticed a difference right away.
This is the router that I initially recommended (and I still use) however, technology has rapidly advanced for routers, and the prices on better, faster products is more than reasonable. I now think this might be the one to have currently.
Can’t say enough about HD antennas. This is potentially the best value in the group.
I’m a fan of Fire TV. It’s a great experience. I still use 2 Rokus, a WD streamer and a PlayStation. But I enjoy the experience on the Fire TV the best. And watch for deals on these. I scooped one up for $20, on sale for half price.
I don’t know what I would do without this NAS box. It is our lives. It houses everything, and I can access it from anywhere via mobile apps on the iPhone and iPad. You can have a Cloud that someone else manages (Apple, Amazon, Dropbox). Or you can do it yourself, and with 4TB of room by the way.
Probably the best sounding and longest battery life for a bluetooth speaker I’ve tried. This is used for our outdoor streaming theater.
Also used for our outdoor streaming theater. I’ve found that these work best with the Cube projector below for audio.
This one isn’t cheap ($280) but it will amaze you and your friends. I can’t tell you how many people have watched a movie or a game on our outdoor theater, and have taken a look at the setup, only to be astonished that the picture is coming from this tiny device. This is really an innovation, and I’m excited to watch where they take this product in the future.
And there you have it. Have a great holiday.
